In this section you’ll find a selection of all-mountain rides I’ve done over the years in Switzerland and the surrounding regions. This is not an endless collection of trails, but a selection of routes that, in my opinion, are truly worth riding.
You can explore the routes in two ways:
- Route Map – To easily find a ride in a specific area.
- Complete List – To browse all available routes.
Trail Classification
The trails are classified according to the STS (Single Trail Scale), which evaluates only the technical difficulty of a route (not exposure or risk), ranging from S0 to S5. The rating is based on ideal conditions and represents an average of the difficulty along the entire trail, which may still include short easier or more difficult sections.
S0 – Very easy
Trails with no technical difficulty, on natural surfaces with good grip or compact gravel. No significant roots, rocks, or steps are present. Gentle to moderate gradients and wide corners. Rideable without specific MTB skills.
S1 – Easy
Small obstacles such as low roots or loose stones may occur. Occasional minor erosion or drainage channels. The surface is not always perfectly compact. Gradients up to around 40%. No tight hairpin turns. Requires basic MTB skills, constant attention, and standing position in more technical sections.
S2 – Intermediate
Trails with more pronounced roots, rocks, and small steps. The surface is often loose or uneven. Tight corners may occur, and gradients can reach up to around 70%. Obstacles require body positioning and good braking control. Solid riding technique is necessary.
S3 – Advanced
Blocked single trails with frequent rocks, roots, and larger steps. Tight hairpins and technical sections on loose or slippery ground are common. Gradients are often steep, sometimes exceeding 70%. Smooth riding sections are rare. Requires excellent bike control, balance, and full concentration.
S4 – Very advanced
Very steep and highly technical trails with large rock features and demanding root sections. High and frequent steps, often close to the chainring. Extremely tight corners and steep gradients. Advanced techniques for shifting front and rear wheel positioning are essential, along with precise braking and balance control.
S5 – Extreme
Extremely difficult terrain with counter-slopes, unstable ground, scree, and erosion. Continuous and closely packed obstacles such as fallen trees. Very steep gradients and minimal or no braking opportunities. In many sections, riders must dismount, push, or carry the bike, and sometimes even climb. Reserved for highly experienced riders.
